PEQUANNOCK TOWNSHIP, NJ — In a merger nobody saw coming, least of all the two companies involved, independent rock label Analog Error Records (AER) confirmed today that it has inadvertently absorbed Pompton Pet Sitters, a beloved local pet sitting service, during what engineers are calling "a routine deploy that got a little too routine."
"We were pushing an update for Tessa Night's Dangerous Love rollout," said a label spokesperson who insisted on being identified only as "the guy who runs everything." "Somewhere between the git push and the coffee refill, we apparently repointed an entire pet-sitting business at our label homepage. To be clear: this was not a hostile takeover. This was, at most, a mildly assertive one."
Early reports from the field suggest the merger has been enthusiastically received — by the animals, at least.
"Bark bark bark bark," said a golden retriever in Pompton Plains, who declined to elaborate but was seen head-banging near a speaker.
A tabby cat reached for comment simply knocked a promotional guitar pick off a table and walked away, which sources close to the situation describe as "a full endorsement, honestly, that's just how she reviews things."
Insiders say the confusion may have stemmed from both brands sharing a certain scrappy, DIY energy — one built on amps and attitude, the other on leashes and belly rubs — and, more directly, from someone reusing a repo folder name that was a little too similar.
What Happens Now
AER says normal operations for Pompton Pet Sitters will resume shortly, minus any accidental interludes of instrumental hard rock. However, the label admitted it is "not opposed" to a limited crossover, floating potential names for the pet-sitting service's new house band including:
- Here's To Bad Decisions (already taken, but arguably fitting)
- The Leash Principle
- Sit. Stay. Shred.
- Kibble & Distortion
"Look, if a beagle wants to headline a set between a nail trim and a walk around the block, who are we to stop him," the spokesperson added. "We're a record label. We contain multitudes. Apparently now including multitudes of dogs."
